LONG ISLAND
Long Island is one of the southern islands in the Bahamian archipelago and is roughly 80 miles long and 4 miles wide at its widest point. The island is bisected by the Tropic of Cancer.
There are many beautiful beaches on Long Island and the best way to find them is to rent a car and explore the Island. Few of the beaches are marked so to find them you have to drive along the one main road on the Island and turn off and explore the dirt and gravel roads that lead to the western coast.
All of the beaches are found on the western coast. The eastern side of the island is rocky shoreline.
The 2 best beaches on Long Island are Cape Santa Maria beach and the beach at Gordon’s Settlement. They are at complete opposite ends of the island but they are both worth a visit. This map will give you an idea of the distance between the two beaches.
CAPE SANTA MARIA BEACH
Cape Santa Maria beach is on the north end of the island. This beach is considered to be one of the best beaches in the world. It is about 4 miles long and has a long half moon shape. You can see a picture of a part of the beach here. Cape Santa Maria Beach Resort is located right on the beach so even if you are not staying there you can stop in for lunch.
BEACH AT GORDON’S SETTLEMENT
The beach at Gordon’s Settlement is on the very southern end of the island. There is no resort nearby but it is definitely worth a visit. You can walk for miles on the beach and never see another person. In an earlier post, I gave directions to this beach and there is also a photo of the beach.
Post a comment if you have visited either of these beaches or if you think there is another beach on Long Island that should replace one of these as one of the top two beaches on Long Island.
